One of my favorite stories for the study of illustrations. Different publisher’s illustrations in Munchhaunsen editions were the subject of an entire seminar I attended while doing graduate work in art history. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for bringing me some nice remembrances of a fun time!
I’ve played a game (beautiful illustrations too) “The surprising adventures of Munchhausen” on Big Fish Games….never knew he was a real (enough) character. I like the balance of colour here….bright vs. dull.
What I was commenting on was that next to your gravatar nothing shows up. Usually, next to the lovely little “logo” the blogs name shows up. Why is it blank next to your little square?
Ah, got it…duh to self! As a habit, I remove the blog link. Thanks to your sage advice, I am now reincarnated…oops, I mean reformed. My rambling prose link added here and on Gravatar. ๐

That sounds like an interesting seminar. Strange story with odd images. Glad it triggered nice memories.
Thank you for telling me!

Goodness. What strange antics from the rider. I am not surprised that the horse looks alarmed and wild-eyed.
I feel wild eyed too!

Well, he is real in the fairy tale world!

I just read about the Munchausen Syndrome and an International Munchausen Day (this one could be iffy)…..I live and learn.
Well, there is Munchhausen syndrome and the far weirder Munchhausen by proxy. So many weird worries so little time.
