St. Nicholas and His Aeroplane
When you have hung your stocking up and crawled into your bed,
St. Nicholas with his fairy crew is sailing overhead,
And on the roofs of children’s homes he pauses in his flight,
While down the chimney goes the crew with gifts for your delight.
.
The Brownies made this aeroplane to carry dear St. Nick,
And now there’s time for every child because he goes so quick.
His reindeer, sleek and fat, stay home and munch their hay and corn,
Delighted that they trot no more from Christmas Eve till morn.

That candle hat is pretty cool! I love the little doll in free fall.
The doll gets to me too, but maybe it is a strategic drop down some child’s chimney! I also like the kind of gingerbread/toy man in the lower left corner. The candle hat would be hard to wear – a headful of wax and singed hair. Interesting that the caption refers to an “aeroplane,” but Santa seems to be in a blimp?

I thought so too–about the blimp. I couldn’t figure it out. A fun piece of weirdness.
It’s amazing that this is from 1914! Santa was quite the leader in technology having swapped the sled for a plane. I suspect he has kept up with the times better than we give him credit for 🙂
Santa is in a retro phase right now! I hope he flies by my house – that hipster Santa!
