This is a charming illustration. Is the story charming too?
Laura brushs some bees of a rose. A bee stings her. She goes screaming to get her father. He takes her back into the field and tells her about bees. She stops bothering bees and they stop bothering her. The End!

It seems a very dark illustration for a children’s book. Was this the fashion at the time, or was it aimed at adults?
Reminds me of a field not far from where I live, where there are several hives…
