The Princess and the Pea.
‘ I have hardly closed my eyes the whole night through. ‘
From the story “The Real Princess”
Hans Andersen’s Fairy Tales.
Written by William Woodburn.

I’m pretty sure this book is about me. Never able to sleep!
Oh that is terrible – I hate it when I can’t sleep – I read and that fills the time – hope you have a great sleep tonight!
This was my favorite fairy tale as a child and I still want all those mattresses!
The mattresses in this illustration are particularly beautiful! Very colorful and her bed looks comfy to me!

I can still hear my grandmother reading this to us. I have always loved this story. I don’t know why, because I have also always thought the princess was kind of whiny. Memories sure get tangled up.
The story starts a chain of thinking – if she can feel the pea, how does she get through the day without going crazy from all the uncomfortable things around . . .

Charming- I love the maid’s turned head.
I like the maid too! She has a great dress.

I wish I looked that good when I haven’t slept at all. And having someone bring me a tray of goodies would be nice, too.
She’s a princess – too hard to please! I think the bed looks super comfy – and the maid is a perk!

I could do with a few perks!
I could do with a bed like that, then I might get comfortable. Super illustration.
It is a great bed!

One of my favorite stories from my childhood.
I am glad to know that you and so many other people like this story so much! I didn’t know it was this popular.
