“Who’s broken my small chair?”
They turned to draw their chairs a little nearer;
“Who’s sat in my chair?” growled the Father Bear;
“Who’s sat in my chair?” said the Mother, clearer;
And squeaked the little Cub, “Who’s broken my small chair?”
The Three Bears’ Picture Book.
Illustrated by Walter Crane.
George Routledge and Sons: London & New York.
I love the clarity of the illustration. And, the fierceness of the bears, even Baby Bear. And they are quite an affluent family – A nice Arts and Crafts look to the place! I like the upholstery on Father Bear’schair.
The story begins by describing the bears as prosperous – they live in a good size house too, but this is not the only Three Bears where they live large. Their chairs are interesting – very personalized to each bear. I am madly in love with illustration – it is a masterpiece as all his work is.

Lots of lovely detail here! The perspective on the floor tiles alone must have taken so long.
The floor is wonderful – he is the master – always takes special pains with the floor/ground. I joined two facing pages of the book in Photoshop – something I had never done before – makes a big illustration!
