“Jack and Jill”
“Yes, here we are. Two tiny bears. The stony hill we scale,
To bring you water from the top within a wooden pail.”
But, crash! And Jack was on his head – water in the sky,
And when he found his Jill again, they sadly said, “Good-bye.”

Less upsetting than all that breaking that goes on in the more familiar version!
Dear Claudia,
Very true, but why did they have to say good bye at the end? Come to think of it, good bye is still better than a a broken crown/head.

I was not sure if they parted from each other or from us (the readers). I envisioned them going off toward home to change their wet clothes…
Much better! There it is – the happy ending. I did (do) wonder about the good bye, but since I like mental relief, I am throwing in with you!

What oddly charming set of drawings!
Dear James,
Yes, you are very right! Bears, chubby, fully dressed = oddly charming.
